Family Services
When more practice isn’t producing progress, the starting point may need to change.
VCu helps families understand what may be interfering with reading, language, or comprehension—and builds individualized instruction from skills and concepts the learner can access.
Does this sound familiar?
Your child may know a skill one day and lose it the next.
Sounds may not stick.
Words are difficult to blend.
Spelling may disappear after practice.
Or your child may read the words accurately but struggle to understand, organize, or retain their meaning.
You may have tried workbooks, apps, nightly reading, school intervention, or private tutoring—and still feel unsure about what is preventing progress.
More practice can help—but only when it's aimed at the right thing.
At VCu, we begin with what the learner can access, strengthen what is unstable, and introduce challenge intentionally as skills become more secure.
How VCu can Help
VCu implements a strategic instructional path based on your child’s needs and best point of access.
Who We Support
VCu supports general education learners and learners with Specific Learning Disabilities, dyslexia, ADHD, speech and language impairments, autism, and complex developmental profiles.
Understand the Learning Profile
An informal literacy assessment, review of school information, running records, and instructional work samples help clarify strengths and needs affecting reading, language, or comprehension.
Build a Strategic Route
Individual or small-group instruction may integrate systematic phonics, language processing, movement, memory tools, comprehension, personally meaningful contexts, and structured learning routines according to the learner's needs.
Challenge is introduced intentionally—not all at once. We adjust the cognitive demand, practice, and learning experience so the learner can strengthen what is unstable, retain what is learned, and gradually manage greater complexity with increasing independence.
Partner with Families
Parent guidance and educational consultation help families understand what they are seeing, make informed decisions, and support progress in ways that fit their goals, routines, and preferences.
